Getting to the Root of Eczema and Psoriasis

Eczema and psoriasis can feel relentless, especially with children. The itch, the burning, the plaques, the rashes that seem to appear out of nowhere — they’re more than just “skin deep.” While conventional medicine focuses on creams, steroids, and immune-suppressing drugs to manage the symptoms, these conditions are signals from the body that something deeper needs attention.

According to Medical Medium® information, eczema and psoriasis are not simply autoimmune diseases where the body attacks itself. Instead, they are the result of underlying viral activity in the body combined with toxic heavy metals. This changes everything, because it means we don’t have to accept symptom management as the only option — true healing is possible when we address the root cause.

What’s really behind eczema and psoriasis

1. Viral activity

Both eczema and psoriasis are fueled by the Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) and related viral strains. These viruses often settle deep in the liver, feeding on toxins and waste materials, and producing byproducts that the body pushes out through the skin. The skin becomes the exit route for the liver’s burden.

2. Toxins and heavy metals

Over time, the liver accumulates pesticides, herbicides, pharmaceuticals, and especially heavy metals like mercury, aluminum, and copper. These toxins become a buffet for viruses. When EBV and other pathogens feast on them, they release neurotoxins and dermatoxins. Those toxic byproducts rise to the surface through the skin, creating the rashes, flakes, and irritation we know as eczema or psoriasis.

3. A struggling liver

When the liver is overburdened, it can’t perform its many jobs well — including filtering blood, neutralizing toxins, and protecting the skin. Eczema and psoriasis are outward signs of an overwhelmed liver crying out for help.

Why current treatments don’t truly heal

Dermatologists and physicians often prescribe:

  • Topical steroids – these suppress inflammation temporarily but weaken the skin over time.

  • Immunosuppressants and biologics – these calm immune symptoms but come at the cost of lowering your defenses, which doesn’t address the viral activity or liver toxicity at the core.

  • Moisturizers and medicated creams – these can soothe, but they don’t address why the skin is erupting in the first place.

These treatments can bring relief, but they are about management, not healing. They don’t stop EBV from feeding, nor do they cleanse the liver of the toxins the virus is thriving on.

How to heal from the root

The good news: when we take pressure off the liver, remove the viral fuel, and strengthen the immune system with the right foods, the body has an incredible ability to restore balance.

1. Strengthen and cleanse the liver

  • Celery juice (16 oz on an empty stomach daily) – flushes out toxins, strengthens hydrochloric acid in the gut, and helps starve viruses.

  • Lemon water – hydrates and flushes waste while providing bioavailable vitamin C.

  • Liver-supporting foods – leafy greens, asparagus, cucumbers, berries, apples, sprouts, wild blueberries, and dandelion greens.

2. Starve the viruses

  • Remove foods that feed EBV and pathogens: eggs, dairy, pork, gluten, corn, soy, canola oil, and processed sugar.

  • Emphasize healing fruits and vegetables that provide antioxidants, minerals, and glucose for the cells.

3. Detox heavy metals

  • Reduce exposure to aluminum, copper and mercury products.

    • Aluminum can be found in soda cans, aluminum foil, and some cookware. Use unbleached parchment paper as a substitute for cooking, opt for drinking out of glass versus cans, and use ceramic cookware when possible. GreenPan is a great option.

    • Run off from copper pipes can be found in our water supplies at home. Use a trusted filtration system for showers and drinking water. Berkey is an amazing brand I highly recommend.

    • Mercury can be found in florescent light bulbs, old thermometers, and fatty fish such as tuna, mackerel, and swordfish. Eat fish that are low in mercury such as salmon, halibut, and cod instead.

  • Bring in the Heavy Metal Detox Smoothie (wild blueberries, barley grass juice powder, spirulina, cilantro, Atlantic dulse, and bananas). This blend safely removes mercury, aluminum, and other metals that viruses feed on. Click here for the full recipe.

4. Soothe the skin naturally

  • Aloe vera gel (from the inner leaf) – calms inflammation inside and out.

  • Cucumbers and melons – hydrate tissues and cool the body from within.

  • Oatmeal baths (unscented, natural) – can provide temporary relief while deeper healing happens.

Healing takes time

Healing eczema and psoriasis from the root isn’t always an overnight process. As the liver clears and viruses weaken, flare-ups can still appear — but this doesn’t mean you’re moving backwards. It means the body is releasing what it no longer needs. With consistency, the skin reflects the inner healing happening day by day.

The bigger truth

Eczema and psoriasis are not random, genetic, or incurable conditions. They’re signs that the body is working hard to protect you and release what doesn’t belong. When we support the liver, cleanse toxins, and remove viral fuel, we can move beyond managing symptoms and step into true healing.
